Professional case workers send us the completed application forms for the neediest children (most are from families living well below the poverty level).  The application form contains information on the age, height, weight, and size of the child.  A favorite color, two “needs” and the child’s “interests” are listed only as guidelines.

Experience has shown the most important needs are often socks, underwear, pajamas, coats, hoodies, jeans and shoes. Since shopping for shoes without the child is difficult, we ask that you send a gift certificate for shoes from Payless Shoe Source or other accessible discount stores.  If you prefer to send a monetary donation for shoes we will purchase the gift certificate to enclose in the child’s Christmas package. Please let us know if the certificate needs to be included. Deliver your purchases to P.J.’s in a large black plastic bag, along with a roll of gift wrap, some bows, and a roll of tape.  Please do not wrap your gifts.  Wrapping gifts is a therapeutic activity for depressed parents,.  Shopping for “special” foods or toiletries is a luxury many of these families have seldom experienced and can bring tears of joy to both parents and children.

All gifts need to be returned by Saturday December 6, 2008. They will be distributed to the families the next week.
